After completing his studies in London, Azaan is to return to Bhopal with his girlfriend Shayra Sayyed but unbeknownst to him, Razia is preparing for his marriage to his childhood friend Noor and is excited to break the news to him.
While Azaan always cherished his friendship with Noor, he never had romantic feelings for her, but Noor had always dreamt to be his wife. The story follows the lives of Azaan, Shay, and Noor as they get bound by marriage due to certain circumstances.
Begum Raziya, also known as Bahu Begum is the matriarch of the ruling family of Bhopal. Her son, Azaan being the heir to his deceased father is supposed to become the next Nawab of Bhopal.

Razia’s husband, Ayub Akhtar Mirza, died after estranging with her. Soon after, their18-year-old son Azaan moved to London for his college studies. In the present, the family was being decorated by Razia and her friend Yasmin Qureshi, for the welcome of the the24-year-old Azaan, who is returning from London after 6 years. Before Azaan’s arrival, Razia tells the people of Bhopal that she is planning to get Azaan married to Yasmin’s daughter NOOR who is also Azaan’s best friend and wants to marry him too.
Azaan arrives and is happy to meet his mother. He tells Razia that he is in love with his classmate, Shayra Sayyed, who also comes to Bhopal with Azaan. Soon, Razia accepts Shayra and announces her and Azaan’s marriage. Before their marriage, Azaan and Shayra spend romantic moments, while Noor gets engaged to her friend Faiz Hussain.
Meanwhile, Azaan’s uncle Asgar and his wife Suraiya want the property of the family and try to create misunderstandings between him, Shayra, and Noor.
The 2 couples decided to get married on the same day, on the wedding day of Azaan-Shayra and Noor-Faiz, Azaan and Shayra get married first. Next, Noor and Faiz’s marriage was to start but Faiz and Yasmin get trapped in the kitchen, where the cylinder was leaking. The kitchen eventually blasts, and the two die.
Noor is shattered and tries to kill herself, but gets stopped by Azaan, who tells her that it was an incident.
The Police come in and question who had gone into the kitchen for the last time. Shayra reveals that she had gone into the kitchen last time, but had switched off the gas.
It is then revealed that Suraiya was behind the blast but turns the tables around which made Noor believes Shayra is her fiance and mother’s murderer and gets Shayra arrested but somehow, Azaan gets Shayra released from jail, NOOR still believes Shayra is a murderer,r and attempts to seek justice by killing her but to no avail.
Azaan and Shayra try to clear out the misunderstanding with Noor but she remains adamant. Noor asks Shayra to divorce Azaa so that she can marry him.
Azaan gets married to Noor but refuses to divorce Shayra. It is later revealed that Noor knew that Shayra is not at fault but was doing all this drama just to get married to Azaan and be Bhopal’s,s Bahu Begum.
Noor tries numerous times to split shayra and azan but doesn’t succeed. She then plans to scare her but then realizes that what she has done was wrong and gives Vazzana a divorce.
Ghazala Mirza makes her entry, wanting revenge from Razia and hoping to snatch the title of Bahu Begum. She plots with Suraiya and Asgar but is later thrown out of the house along with Suraiya and Asgar.
Then enters Adil, Azaan’s stepbrother. He installs a chip in Azaan’s mouth and blackmails Shayra. He blackmails shayra into doing things that make Azaan and the family believe that Shayra betrayed them and she had an affair with Adil.
Unable to prove her innocence, They throw Shayra out of the house. Adil then kidnaps Shayra.
Azaantoo makes Shayra jealous and announces his marriage to NOOR. But Noor was sure that Shayra can never betray them and to find out the truth comes to Adil’s house and makes several attempts to make Azaan realize the truth but her plan fails and she is misunderstood.
Shayra escapes from Adil’s captivity and hit Azaan with a vase due to which, the chip drops from his mouth and blats.
Then Adilforcese Shayra to give her statement against Noor.
Shayra is revealed to be pregnant and Adil sends the reports. Noor understands the truth and goes to Adil’s house with a gun to rescue Shayra. Adil makes Shayra wear his jacket and tricks Noor into shooting her. Noor instead shoots the chandelier and asks shayra to run, Shayra runs But Adil hits her with his car and Shayra falls into the valley.
5 YEARS LATER
An auction is happening in Begum Mahal. Noor, now rich buys it. Azaan loses all the property, disbelieving Shayra is dead and has a miserable life. Adil takes loans on the properties in the royal family’s name. Noor tries to bring back Azaan to his previous life and succeeds as Razia wakes up from a coma.
Starting a new life, Azaan proposes to her for marriage, which she accepts, and they embrace. Shayla is revealed to be alive and returns in the epilogue. The Mirzas are shocked to see her alive. And the series ends in suspense.

Bahu Begum – Development & Controversies
The series received a lot of love during its premiere. The cast line up got everyone glued until the polygamy side of the series starts. Fans started throwing at producers for promoting Polygamy.
In an interview Arjit Taneja stated, “We are not promoting polygamy. There is a reason why he marries twice and one has to watch the show to know more about that. Other than that, we have a maulvi (cleric), who comes on sets every day to keep a check on our work. One does have to keep certain things in mind to safeguard religious interest.”
The series has been broadcasted in different countries including Sumalia, Indonesia, Turkey and on GlowTV as” Promised Love” in South Africa.
